Swedish Massage (60 or 90 Minutes):
When most people think of massage, Swedish massage is usually what they picture. This type of massage is relaxing and rejuvenating. Benefits of Swedish massage include increased oxygen in the blood, decreased toxins stored in muscles, improved circulation, increased flexibility, and easing of tension. Swedish massage involves long strokes that rub the muscles in the direction of blood flow to the heart. Other types of Swedish massage techniques involve circular pressure applied by the hands, firm pressure and rubbing of the muscles, tapping, and bending or stretching of the joints. Studies have shown that receiving a Swedish massage significantly decreases the stress hormone known as cortisol and increases white blood cells that are vital to the boosting the immune system.
Deep Tissue (60 or 90 Minutes):
A deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but with a little more pressure applied to the muscles of the body. This increased pressure is excellent for athletes or those suffering from chronic muscle tension. Deep tissue massage focuses on the deep layers of the muscles, tendons, and the protective layer that surrounds muscles, joints, and bones, known as fascia. Studies show that blood pressure can reduce after a 60 minute deep tissue massage and that deep tissue massage also reduces stress levels and heart rate, but boosts mood and relaxation.
Hot Stone Massage:
Hot stone massage is exactly what it sounds like. Hot stones are placed on the body which allows for muscle relaxation and the release of tension. Hot stone massage increases blood circulation, carrying more oxygen to the muscles and organs of the body. The heat of the stones allows for deeper access to the muscles’ layers when combined with traditional massage techniques. Hot stone massage promotes deep relaxation and can reduce stress.
